Emaus Lutheran Church

The congregation of Emaus Lutheran was originally founded in 1851. Since then, the church has occupied three different buildings in as many neighborhoods and is now located two blocks east of Horlick High School in Racine. In 2016, Emmaus and Parroquia Emaus voted to become one bilingual congregation serving and worshipping together.

Primary Focus: Youth Ministry

Lutheran Affiliation: ELCA

Operating Budget: $149,520

Programs: Emaus’ year-round and summer youth programs provide critical after-school homework support, reading clubs, faith development, modelling of safe and healthy lifestyles, and leadership development among young children and youth. Participants receive nutritious meals and experience first-hand the love of God through biblical stories, songs and prayer. When COVID-19 restrictions were in place, Emaus students were given simple stationary bikes so that they can exercise while reading at home. To make reading an enjoyable activity and to create a sense of competition, Emaus staff included a Reading Bingo page each month in student activity bags.

Who is Served: Emaus serves a diverse group of people from the neighborhood and community--many of whom are Latino immigrants and their families.
